On 3rd June, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) witnessed the signing of a MOU between Taiwan's Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) and U.S. defense technology company Anduril Industries. The agreement was signed by MIRDC Chairperson Chia-Ju Liu (劉嘉茹) and Anduril founder Palmer Luckey, with Chyou-Huey Chiou (邱求慧), Director General, Industrial Development Administration serving as witness. The partnership will focus on key drone technologies, including AI-enabled autonomous systems, drone manufacturing, supply chain localization, and the development of non-China supply chains, strengthening Taiwan's global collaboration capabilities and supply chain competitiveness.

Founded in 2017 by Palmer Luckey, the creator of Oculus VR, Anduril is a leading U.S. defense technology company that develops autonomous systems, AI-powered command-and-control platforms, advanced sensors, and unmanned aircraft solutions for government and defense applications. According to Director General Chiou, the MOU aims to promote joint R&D, technology exchange, manufacturing optimization, supply chain integration, localized production, and the establishment of resilient non-China supply chains in the AI drone sector.

The MOEA noted that Taiwan's strengths in ICT, precision machinery, metal processing, electronics, and system integration provide a solid foundation for international cooperation. Through ongoing industry development initiatives, more than ten Taiwanese companies have already secured prototype or mass-production orders from Anduril in areas such as drone airframes, payload systems, and propulsion technologies. The ministry expects the collaboration to accelerate technology upgrades, quality validation, industrial matchmaking, and market access, further enhancing Taiwan's position as a trusted partner in the global drone and autonomous systems supply chain.
