TÜV Rheinland held the "Smart Automotive Forum" on March 1, 2024, to explore the latest market trends in the automotive industry, including Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X), charging infrastructure, automotive functional safety and cybersecurity, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and related automotive certifications. The forum, structured around the European vehicle certification framework, discussed the latest developments in smart automotive technology and related certification challenges, attracting attention from those interested in electric vehicle development or becoming suppliers to automotive manufacturers.

With over 35 years of service in Asia, TÜV Rheinland provides verification services to automotive upstream and downstream manufacturers worldwide, gaining recognition from numerous national transportation departments. Today, vehicle verification has shifted from mechanical electronics to electronic systems, focusing more on battery, autonomous driving, and cybersecurity in connected vehicles.

Kevin Wu, General Manager of Mobility Division, TÜV Rheinland Taiwan, emphasized Taiwan's notable advantage in producing diverse products despite its limited automotive market size. Especially transitioning from consumer electronics to automotive electronics, Taiwan excels in areas like blind-spot detection, reverse warning, cockpit display systems, and in-vehicle communication systems. The demand for control chips and sensing components is growing with the shift from traditional fuel vehicles to electric vehicles. The EU has established a series of strict regulations and standards covering active safety, cybersecurity, online upgrades, emergency call systems, vehicle electrical safety, and battery management systems to ensure smooth industry upgrades.

Moreover, TÜV Rheinland boasts multiple advantages in automotive system testing:

(1) V2X:
TÜV Rheinland's Connected Car Laboratory is Taiwan's only OmniAir-certified authorized laboratory and the only third-party partner laboratory in the D-City smart transportation test site, accredited by the Vehicle Safety Certification Center (VSCC). It conducts Taiwan's Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), communication security testing, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and SAE vehicle-to-everything (V2X) standard tests.

(2) ADAS:
Each country's regulations on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems include additional local requirements such as road testing and connection to road infrastructure, driver fatigue monitoring, and ensuring users understand the correct use of advanced driver assistance systems on vehicles to avoid hazards.

(3) Charging infrastructure:
As charging equipment involves high current and voltage, in addition to safety considerations, testing includes environmental aging, communication compatibility, and system installation requirements, all gradually becoming mandatory regulations worldwide.
