640 MW Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm Officially Commissioned; Propelling Taiwan's Offshore Wind Capacity Surpasses 3 GW

Yunneng Wind Power (hereinafter "Yunneng") announced on 4th that Taiwan's Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm has been officially commissioned with a total installed capacity of 640 MW and is now fully connected to the grid and operational. This wind farm is the second largest single-site operational wind project in Taiwan. Its completion represents a significant milestone in Taiwan's offshore wind industry, pushing the nation's offshore wind capacity beyond 3.04 GW and elevating Yunlin County to the third position among all counties and cities in terms of renewable energy installed capacity, thereby creating sustainable value for Taiwan's energy transition.
Yunneng is a joint venture established by Skyborn Renewables, TotalEnergies, Thailand's EGCO Group, and the Japanese company Sojitz, which is responsible for the construction and operation of the Yunlin offshore wind farm. The wind farm is scheduled to commence commercial operations in June 2025, with TotalEnergies overseeing technical operations management and Skyborn providing additional management services.
The commissioning ceremony was held on the 4th in Sihu Township, Yunlin County, and was attended by distinguished guests including Wen-Ruo Jiang, Political Deputy Minister of the MOEA, Shu-Ya Hsieh, Deputy County Magistrate of Yunlin County; Ming-Bin Chang, Director-General of the Department of Investment Promotion, MOEA; Long-Jing Wu, Director of Marine Resources Department (Ocean Affairs Council); Su-Chen Weng, Chief Secretary of Energy Administration, MOEA; Patrick Lammers, CEO of Skyborn Renewables; Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President of Renewables at TotalEnergies; Jiraporn Sirikum, CEO of EGCO, Masayoshi Fujimoto; Chairman of Sojitz Corp, as well as members of the project's banking syndicate and supplier partners.

Patrick Lammers, CEO of Skyborn, stated:
"The commissioning of the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm is a major achievement for Skyborn, our partners at Yunneng, and the advancement of green energy in Taiwan. Not only is it one of Taiwan’s largest offshore wind farms, but it is also Skyborn’s first project to become operational in the Asia-Pacific region, clearly demonstrating our commitment and execution capabilities."
Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President of Renewables at TotalEnergies, remarked:
"We are delighted to witness the successful commissioning of the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm. This 640 MW project will assist TotalEnergies in reaching a total renewable energy capacity of 35 GW and achieving a net generation of over 50 billion kWh by 2025, representing approximately 10% of TotalEnergies’ overall energy production. In our role as the technical operator of the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm, we will further enhance our expertise in offshore wind, applying this knowledge to future projects in Germany, Denmark, and the United Kingdom."
Jiraporn Sirikum, CEO of EGCO, commented:
"It is a great honor for EGCO to witness the successful completion of the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm. We are deeply proud to contribute to addressing climate change and advancing the low-carbon transition. This achievement is the result of the collective efforts of all our partners, the banking syndicate, and stakeholders, and we are particularly grateful for the full support provided by the Taiwanese government."
Masayoshi Fujimoto, Chairman of Sojitz Corp, added:
"This significant milestone was made possible through the strong support of the Taiwanese government and the dedicated efforts of the Yunneng team. This project stands as an excellent outcome of international collaboration and marks a key milestone in the development of renewable energy supply."
Located in the Taiwan Strait, the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm is situated 8 to 17 kilometers off Taiwan's western coast, with water depths ranging from 7 to 35 meters. Covering a total area of 82 square kilometers, the wind farm comprises 80 wind turbines, with the generated power being fed into the grid via two onshore substations located in Taisi Township and Sihu Township of Yunlin County. Under two 20-year power purchase agreements, the wind farm supplies electricity to Taiwan Power Company. The project has received strong backing from a syndicate of lenders established in 2019, including local Taiwanese banks as well as international banks and export credit agencies.
