Iberdrola Will Not Participate in Offshore Wind 3.2 Zonal Development Auction in Taiwan

Spanish power group Iberdrola S.A. announced today (April 3rd) that it will not participate in the offshore wind 3.2 zonal development auction in Taiwan.
Jose Oriol Hoyos, Director of Iberdrola Offshore Wind Business Group, Asia Pacific, stated: "As one of the world's leading power companies with over two decades of expertise in renewable energy development, Iberdrola is dedicated to addressing climate change and spearheading the energy transition while ensuring commercial resilience and prioritizing high-quality projects for sustainable capital investment. Following a thorough assessment of the bidding landscape across different markets, we have made a significant decision to abstain from participating in the candidate selection process for the second phase of the Taiwan zonal development of offshore wind."
He further emphasized, "Taiwan stands as a key pillar in Iberdrola's expansion strategy within the Asia-Pacific region. Since the establishment of our office in Taipei in 2021, we have been actively engaging local talent recruitment, conducting preliminary design work, and carrying out marine area surveys for the Greater Central Offshore Wind Power Plan in the Taichung/Changhua region, as well as the Guofeng Offshore Wind Power Plan off the coast of Changhua/Penghu. Since 2022, we have been diligently preparing bids. Throughout these years, we have cultivated valuable partnerships with both the public and private sectors in Taiwan. We are committed to transparency and will responsibly communicate this decision in advance to all our partners."
Kevin Liu, General Manager of Iberdrola Taiwan, expressed: "Iberdrola holds deep respect for Taiwan's commitment to advancing renewable energy, recognizing it as a pivotal step towards bolstering the nation's energy self-sufficiency and providing a reliable source of green electricity for its export-oriented industries. We sincerely urge the Taiwanese government to sustain a favorable investment climate and facilitate the steady growth of offshore wind power in Taiwan. We extend our gratitude to our local partners for their collaboration thus far, reaffirming our dedication to the Taiwanese market and the continuation of our partnerships on the global stage."
