UK Releases One Million Discounted Train Tickets Advocates for Eco-Friendly Travel
The Department for Transport announces the release of over 1 million discounted train tickets available for purchase through the Great Britain Rail Sale from January 23 to 29, 2024. These tickets are applicable for journeys within England, Wales, and Scotland from January 30 to March 15, 2024. This initiative is part of the UK government's efforts to reduce living costs while promoting tourism and encouraging environmentally friendly travel.
Norway Implements CCS Project by Clearing Sea Urchins
Initiated by the international environmental NGO Bellona, the "Nomare" project aims to restore Norway's coastal seaweed ecosystem by clearing sea urchins and capturing millions of tons of CO2. The North of Ireland Veterinary Association (NIVA) estimates that this action can annually store 1.2 million tons of CO2 through dried seaweed, mitigating the ecological crisis caused by overfishing of cod and catfish, leading to the disappearance of seaweed beds and exposed seabeds. Successful restoration of kelp forests could store significant amounts of climate-damaging CO2, increase biodiversity, and protect coastlines from erosion.
NDC: Highest Achievement Rate in 16 Years for Public Construction in 2023
Facing economic headwinds last year, Taiwan's various ministries vigorously promoted public construction projects to stimulate the economy. On the 22nd, the National Development Council (NDC) announced that the overall budget for public construction in 2024 reached NT$678.7 billion, with an achievement rate of 96.21% and an execution amount of NT$653.1 billion. Both the execution amount and achievement rate set new highs in nearly 16 years. This year, the focus is on net-zero transformation, which will continue to be implemented in public construction plans.
