|Australia Introduces the "Future Made in Australia Act" Allocating Public Funds to the Manufacturing and Clean Energy Sectors
Australia recently announced the introduction of the "Future Made in Australia Act," allocating public funds to the manufacturing and clean energy sectors to foster a more resilient economy. This initiative aims to compete with other nations, such as the United States "The Inflation Reduction Act." Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that Australia will leverage new means to advance national interests and introduce new products and services to new markets. The new legislation will stimulate increased investment in renewable energy resources, including green hydrogen and battery production for green metals, creating more job opportunities and ensuring economic competitiveness.
|Venezuela's Fishery Declines-Jellyfish Proliferation Linked to Rising Sea Temperatures Due to Climate Change
In the waters near Venezuela's Aragua, there has been a significant increase in jellyfish populations, accompanied by a decrease in fishery yields. This phenomenon is likely related to rising sea temperatures and reduced natural predators due to climate change, leading to a surge in jellyfish populations in fishermen's nets and a decline in catches of sardines and other fish species. The global increase in jellyfish numbers warns of a potential tipping point in the oceans, where jellyfish dominate. Jellyfish can survive in harsh environments with low oxygen levels, posing ecological impacts. Fishermen advocate emulating Mexico by leveraging the economic value of jellyfish and exporting them to Asian countries for consumption or pharmaceutical purposes to alleviate the fisheries crisis.
|Over 56,000 Old Motorcycles Replaced with Electric Vehicles and Mostly Used for TSMC Offset
The Ministry of Environmental Protection has been promoting the replacement of old motorcycles with electric vehicles (EV), assisting businesses in offsetting greenhouse gas emissions in environmental impact assessment development projects, acquired mainly by Hsinchu Science Park and used for TSMC development offsets. The Environmental Protection Department encourages businesses interested in obtaining offset quotas to increase their quota acquisitions. Citizens replacing old motorcycles with electric scooters receive a reward of NT$1,000 per vehicle, with a total of 56,523 replacements to date. Starting in 2023, old small passenger and cargo vehicles are also eligible for replacement with electric or hybrid vehicles, with 6,521 replacements made, which is estimated to have reduced at least 130,000 tons of carbon emissions.
