Penghu has been moving towards the goal of a green energy and low-carbon island since 2011. By the end of 2021, the density of solar energy installations is among the top six in Taiwan. It has accumulated 15MW of solar power installed capacity at present and is expected to become a “100% green energy island” by 2025. HDRenewable cooperated with the Penghu County Government, officially started construction of its first outlying island solar photovoltaic project, and is expected to start construction of the other two projects in the second half of the year. After the completion of the construction site, it is expected to provide nearly 30MW of green electricity, accounting for about 20% of Penghu's overall power generation. Considering that the electricity consumption of Taiwan has repeatedly hit new highs, the green electricity will also be transported back to Taiwan through the Taiwan-Penghu cable, bringing more abundant greenelectricity sources to Taiwan.
Yuan-Yi Xie, Chairman of HD Renewable, said that the renewable energy industry not only accelerates Penghu's progress towards green energy goals but also activates local land use and brings new economic development opportunities. HD Renewable will also continue to expand the territory of solar energy projects. By providing sufficient green power with energy storage and power sales, to realize the corporate vision of "smart green energy, readily available".
Feng-Wei Lai, Mayor of Penghu County, said, "Penghu is actively transforming into a low-carbon island, and I am very happy to see that HD Renewable has invested in the development of Penghu's renewable energy project and the cultivation of local energy education and talent, so as to promote Penghu towards a new milestone in carbon reduction, expect to gradually implement Taiwan's 2050 net-zero carbon emissions goal."
Zhao-Ling Liu Chen, Speaker of the Penghu County Council, said, "Penghu has spared no effort to promote the development of renewable energy in recent years, and actively create a low-carbon life for local residents. We hope that after the completion of the project sites in Penghu, HD Renewable can make further progress in the development of local green energy. "
Qing-Ping Chen, director of the Penghu District of TaiPower Company, said, "The Taiwan-Penghu submarine cable, which took 16 years of preparation, was originally designed to make the power supply of the outlying islands more stable. Now not only has the original goal been achieved, but it has also taken on the role of a green electricity transmitter to provide support for Taiwan's increasing green electricity demand."
