Changhua's Shengang Wetland, renowned as the "homeland of fiddler crabs," harbors rich biodiversity. However, the continuous accumulation of marine debris has turned it into a silent killer of wetland environments. To make the beautiful ocean more sustainable, the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project (referred to as the Hai Long Project) has been rallying colleagues for seven consecutive years to embrace and protect the ocean. Through practical beach cleanup actions, they aim to continue safeguarding Changhua's extensive coastline.

Led by Executive Vice President Jun Tamura, over 50 volunteers from the Hai Long Project recently gathered at Shengang Wetland to collect discarded waste. The Hai Long Project team conducted marine environmental education, imparting the correct concepts of marine conservation and daily plastic reduction to all participants.

A Hai Long colleague participating in the beach cleanup stated: "I have been participating in cleanup activities continuously for 7 years since 2018, even during pregnancy. This is the first time I have brought my husband and daughter to participate in a cleanup after becoming a mother, allowing my child to witness firsthand our commitment to protecting the marine environment through action. The significance of cleaning lies not only in clearing garbage but also in understanding the types of waste on the beach, identifying their sources, and examining our daily habits to reduce the use of single-use plastic products, thereby making positive changes to protect the ocean!"

Among the Hai Long Project's cleanup team were children who enthusiastically and diligently volunteered to pick up trash. Despite getting covered in mud, they wore smiles of achievement on their faces. After a morning of hard work, 168 kilograms of anthropogenic waste (133 kg of general garbage and 35 kg of recyclable waste) were removed. Witnessing the restored cleanliness of the beach brought deep emotions to all participants.

Tamura stated: "The Hai Long Offshore Wind Project is one of the largest wind farms in Taiwan at present. In addition to wind farm development, we greatly emphasize ecological conservation and environmental sustainability. Through environmental education, we aim to instill environmental awareness in the next generation and pass down the spirit of environmental sustainability for future generations."
