In response to the global trend toward net-zero carbon emissions and to help Taiwanese export companies achieve their Renewable Energy (RE) goals and gain access to international supply chains, Taipower is launching the RE30 electricity product for the first time. Designed to supplement corporate green electricity needs, this product works in tandem with privately purchased green power, allowing Taipower to top up a user's electricity consumption to reach 30% with renewable energy.

Taipower explains that it plans to release 500 million kWh of green power from its self-built renewable energy facilities under this product. Combined with utility power, a total of approximately 1.66 billion kWh will be available for sale from June 1 to December 31, with electricity supply starting gradually from July 1. Buyers who are interested can apply through their local Taipower office.

Taipower states that the RE30 product is available to existing users with high-voltage or above electricity usage who are already purchasing green power from private providers. The purchase limit for a single electricity account is capped at 100 million kWh (including 30 million kWh of green power) and a minimum of 1 million kWh (including 300,000 kWh of green power). The supply period is fixed at one year. Users can apply in increments of 100,000 kWh within the 1 million to 100 million kWh range, with the supply starting from the first day of the month following the completed application and lasting for 12 months.

Regarding pricing, Taipower has referenced market prices for green electricity and the average transaction price for small-scale green power last year. The green power portion of the RE30 product is priced at NT $6.3 per kWh (excluding business tax and supply fees). To encourage early adoption and support carbon reduction, a special early bird rate of NT $6.1 per kWh is offered for power supplied before the end of 2025. The standard rate of NT $6.3 per kWh will resume starting January 1, 2026. Taipower adds that the utility power portion will be calculated and supplied according to standard electricity rates.

Taipower emphasizes that RE30 plays a role in providing timely support to the green electricity market. Based on the user's monthly electricity consumption, privately sourced green power will be prioritized, with RE30 used to fill the remaining gap up to 30%. For example, if a company purchases 1 million kWh of RE30 for one year (including 300,000 kWh of green power), this can meet its monthly electricity needs. If the company uses 100,000 kWh in a month and receives 10,000 kWh of green power from a private supplier, Taipower will supplement the remaining 20,000 kWh to help the company reach the 30% renewable energy usage target.

Taipower explains that the RE30 product is sold under a "utility power plus green power" model. The green power is sourced from Taipower's self-built renewable energy facilities, and corresponding Taiwan Renewable Energy Certificates (T-RECs) will be issued to companies based on the actual supplied volume, helping them reduce their carbon footprint. Taipower also mentioned plans to release more green power annually, aiming to increase the supply to 3 billion kWh by 2027, which could support the RE30 goals for up to 10 billion kWh of industrial electricity use.
