Vestas has completed the first local hub-nacelle assembly and testing of the V174 offshore wind turbine nacelle at its factory in Taichung Port, Taiwan. According to Vestas, following the complete local assembly of hub components in 2023, Vestas has, for the first time, accomplished the merging and testing of nacelles and hubs in Taiwan.

In 2020, Vestas signed an agreement with Taiwan's Yeong Guan Energy Technology Group (YGG) to source additional components for the production of V174 turbines which are set to be installed in Taiwan. The agreement covers rotor hubs, hub plates, and nacelle base frames.

In 2022, Vestas, together with its partner Ten Li Offshore Wind Technology, produced the first V174-9.5 MW blade at its facilities in Taiwan. The blade was installed at the Changfang and Xidao offshore wind project.

Alex Robertson, Country Manager of Vestas Taiwan, said, "The successful completion of the installation and testing project of V174 in Taiwan is an important breakthrough in further localization after the completion of the first hub assembly in Taiwan in October 2023, and the commitment to make substantial contributions to sustainable energy in Taiwan. Vestas will continue to enhance its local assembly capabilities to help local talents better understand the testing process, continue to cultivate local offshore wind power talents, and further assist Taiwan in realizing its energy transition."

Apart from Changfang and Xidao, the localised V174- 9.5 MW turbines will be deployed on the 300 MW Taipower Offshore Wind Project Phase II, and the V174- 9.6 MW model will be used on the 298 MW Zhong Neng offshore wind farm.
