Danish Trade Office in Taipei Highlights Taiwan's Energy Transition Progress and Future Opportunities

Taipei, Taiwan – At today's 2024 Media Gathering hosted by the Trade Council of Denmark, Taipei Office at the Grand Hyatt Taipei, Danish Trade Office Director Peter Sand emphasized to support the development and implementation of Taiwan's energy policy and its green transition while sharing actionable insights to accelerate its journey toward a net-zero future. The event also highlighted Danish companies' contribution to Taiwan with regards to sustainable energy solutions and pointed towards Taiwan's leadership in offshore wind energy in APAC region.

Key Messages from the Event:
1. Taiwan's Energy Policies Are on the Right Track, but a Continued High speed is Crucial While Taiwan's energy policies demonstrate a strong alignment with global trends, the Danish Trade Office urged the government to accelerate implementation, or it will be very challenging to supply sufficient green power for Taiwanese companies going forward to achieve Taiwan's 2030 energy transition target. "The competition for resources is intensifying worldwide, and speeding up Taiwan's energy transition will ensure, that Taiwan remains competitive and secures its position as a leader in the region," said Director Peter Sand.

2. Fair Energy Pricing and a Focus on Efficiency Can Drive Just Transitions Initiating a Reflection of true energy costs by means of fair electricity pricing is a step in the right direction. However, Director Sand highlighted that strengthening energy efficiency measures and implementing just transition tools can further support Taiwanese citizens and businesses during this transformative period. These approaches are likely to mitigate challenges and ensure an equitable energy transition.

3. Taiwan's Offshore Wind Success Story Remains an Inspiration for the Region Taiwan’s achievements in offshore wind development have positioned Taiwan as a model for neighboring countries in the Asia-Pacific. "Taiwan already has inspiring success stories in offshore wind energy to share with the region. Danishh companies have contributed more than half of the capacity and they are actively involved in many projects – both present and those planed for implementation in the coming years. We are confident that Taiwan’s broader energy transition will – going forward - produce even more concrete examples of cases to celebrate with our Danish companies' support,” Director Peter Sand added.

- Invest in Denmark showcased opportunities for collaboration and investment in green technologies in Denmark and the excellent business environment for such investments, that Denmark offers.
- Danish industry leaders, including CIP, COWI, MAN Energy Solution, NIRAS, NKT, Ørsted, and Vestas, shared insights into offshore wind, energy saving, Power-to-X technologies, cable technology, and CCUS solutions, providing Taiwan with practical tools to accelerate its energy transition.
- A review of the Danish Decarbonization Alliance's 2024 achievements demonstrated Denmark's commitment to sharing its comprehensive expertise and technologies with global partners like Taiwan.
