|Romanian Adopts the Country's First Offshore Wind Energy Law
The Romanian Parliament adopts the country's first Offshore Wind Energy Law. This bill comes at a time when the country needs to assert its energy independence and resilience. Romania aims to develop its first offshore wind farm by 2032.
Romania is currently developing many wind projects. And the country added 72 MW of onshore wind energy to its energy mix in 2023. The Romanian Ministry of Energy will launch a dedicated study within 3 months of the entry into force of the law to assess wind potential, grid capacity, possible Maritime Spatial Planning restrictions including on biodiversity and environment.
|EBRD Commits €46 Million Funding to 102 MW Wind Farm Project in Romania
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is lending over €46m to finance the construction and operation of a 102MW wind farm in Romania.
The amount is part of a €93m financing package for the Urleasca wind farm. Urleasca Wind Farm, a Romanian company, is equally co-owned by BIG Shopping Centers and MEGA OR.
The EBRD’s Grzegorz Zielinski, Head of Energy Europe, said: "The wind farm is expected to benefit from corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) and boost Romania's increase in renewables capacity which is targeted to grow by adding 11.9 GW over the coming years."
|Exus Acquires 51 MW Spanish Wind Project from Enhol Group
Exus Renewables has acquired a 51 MW wind farm project in the north of Spain, from independent Spanish company Enhol Group. The scheme is in ready to build phase and is expected to achieve commercial operation in the third quarter of 2025.
Exus said the project includes the potential for solar hybridisation, co-located battery storage, and advanced energy management solutions. The project appointed PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) and the international legal and tax services firm, Garrigues, as Grupo Enhol's seller advisors, while Uria Menendez law firm provided consultation for Exus.
