|Singapore Offshore Wind Services Outfit Plans to Spend $US1bn in Australian Market
Cyan Renewables, headquartered in Singapore, has committed to investing $1 billion in Australia's offshore wind industry following its acquisition of the Australian marine services provider MMA Offshore. This acquisition is regarded as the largest privatization deal in the region's offshore wind service sector and will strengthen Cyan's influence in the Asia-Pacific area. Cyan plans to invest in establishing a specialized fleet of support vessels for wind farms to facilitate the entire lifecycle from installation to maintenance.

Additionally, Cyan's primary investor, Seraya Partners, emphasized that this transaction demonstrates Cyan's capability to build a platform spanning from Asia to Europe and will accelerate MMA's progress towards achieving net-zero objectives within the maritime industry.

|Sumitomo and JGC Plan Mass Production of Floating Wind Components
Sumitomo Corporation and JGC Corporation, along with approximately 20 shipbuilding and steel manufacturing companies, plan to jointly mass-produce key components for floating offshore wind power. The objective is to produce 100 floating platforms annually by 2030. Given Japan's limited shallow waters, floating offshore wind power is more suitable for the local environment.

According to data from the Mitsubishi Research Institute, by 2050, Japan's potential area for floating wind power will reach 1,477 GW, which is 20 times more than fixed type. The Japanese government aims to achieve 10 GW of offshore wind power by 2030 and 30-45 GW by 2040. While fixed type will be the primary focus until 2030, the 2040 target will require the introduction of floating offshore wind power. The new consortium, including Oshima Shipyard and over 20 domestic and international companies, will collaborate to explore platforms suitable for mass production. Initially, products will be exported to Europe to accumulate achievements, aiming to supply domestically.

|Residents of Yeonggwang Jeollanam-do Demand Rejection of Designation for Sinan Offshore Wind Transmission Line Cluster
On June 29, over 200 residents of Yeonggwang County, Jeollanam-do, protested in front of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy building, demanding the withdrawal of the designation application for the "Sinan County Offshore Wind Transmission Line Cluster," which is being advanced in Jeollanam-do. According to the Yeonggwang County Offshore Wind Transmission Line Joint Response Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Joint Committee), a total of 7,934 residents signed a petition opposing the project, with the opposition activities spanning approximately 100 days from February 19 to May 31 this year. The petition was submitted to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Despite the Vice Governor for Political Affairs expressing understanding and promising not to advance the project through closed-door administration, on April 29, Jeollanam-do submitted the designation application to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy without notifying local residents. According to relevant guidelines, the cluster should have a council composed of residents affected by the project. However, Jeollanam-do did not include surrounding residents when forming the council. Consequently, residents are requesting the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to return the designation application, and they are demanding that Jeollanam-do withdraw the application, issue a public apology, and engage in direct negotiations with residents to ensure project acceptance.
