Mailiao Power Station Proactively Requests Taipower to Issue Pending Electricity
In response to concerns from the Legislative Yuan's KMT caucus regarding the extension of Mailiao Power Station Unit 1 due to power shortages, Taipower clarified that the extension was requested by the operator in May to compensate for power not delivered due to force majeure. This request is unrelated to the decommissioning of Maanshan Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Unit 1, which was retired according to legal requirements. The decommissioned Maanshan NPP Unit 1 was planned to be replaced by the higher-capacity Fong Der Gas-fired Power Plant, ensuring an adequate power supply.

Efficient Combined-Cycle Power Plant Construction Saudi Arabia Signs $1.5 Billion Agreement for Siemens Energy Equipment
Saudi Arabia has a strategy to reach net zero by 2060 and is relying on modern, highly efficient gas- fired power plants in combination with CO2 capture and storage, to significantly reduce its emissions. Siemens Energy is supplying key power plant technologies that will provide almost 4 GW to the Kingdom, and in addition has also entered a long-term maintenance contract for 25 years for the two power plants, with a total value of approximately USD 1.5 billion.

The contract for the civil and electromechanical works of the Kaohsiung MRT Yellow Line "YC02 Package" was signed on June 18. In response to public concerns that the original plan to open the line in 2028 might be delayed until after 2034, the Kaohsiung MRT Bureau emphasized that the target to complete the entire Yellow Line by 2028 remains unchanged.

Shinfox Energy Subsidiary Shinfox Far East Company's "SFE Hercules" Arrives in Taiwan on June 21
Shinfox Energy announced that the " SFE Hercules," a 4,000-ton heavy lift vessel built by its Singapore-based subsidiary Shinfox Far East Company, successfully arrived in Taiwan on June 21. A commencement and blessing ceremony for TPC II maritime construction was held on June 22 at Taichung Port. The vessel is set to begin offshore wind power marine engineering operations, including the installation of pin piles, jacket foundations, wind turbine blades, and towers.

Former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi stated before the release of a report commissioned by the EU in September last year that Europe must reduce energy prices, develop capital markets, and adopt stronger industrial and trade policies to maintain its competitiveness. He highlighted that Europe's productivity growth is lagging behind that of the United States, primarily due to the stronger US technology sector, particularly in AI and cloud data. Currently, electricity prices in the EU are two to three times higher than those in the US. To foster the development of energy-intensive digital technologies, the EU must lower its electricity prices.
