The British Office Taipei and Taiwan's Energy Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs jointly hosted the "UK–Taiwan 20th Anniversary Renewable Energy Gala Dinner" on April 1, 2026, at the Grand Hyatt Taipei. The event brought together senior government officials and industry representatives from both sides. UK Trade Envoy to Taiwan, Lord Faulkner of Worcester, and Director-General Chuang Ming-chi attended the event, marking two decades of close collaboration and celebrating the remarkable evolution of offshore wind energy from early-stage planning to a mature industry.

Taiwan Launches Round 3 Offshore Wind Zonal Development Auction Mechanism with 3.6GW Capacity Target
On the 27th, the MOEA announced the "Directions for Allocating Installed Capacity of Offshore Wind Potential Zones" guidelines for offshore wind zonal development Round 3, following 2 briefing sessions and 3 stakeholder consultation meetings. The application process will commence on April 1, 2026, with a six-month preparation period provided to developers. Submissions will close on September 30, and the selection results are scheduled to be announced before the end of the year.

A joint report by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) and Greenpeace estimates that continued reliance on fossil-based electricity could result in approximately 90 premature deaths, 19,000 work absences, and 277 cases of childhood asthma, alongside economic losses of up to USD 500 million by 2030.

Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm (Formosa 2) on 23rd announced the successful completion of its refinancing, securing approximately NT$58.9 billion. This transaction marks the first completed offshore wind refinancing in both Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region. The deal received an enthusiastic response from the financial market, achieving more than two times oversubscription and setting a new benchmark in Taiwan's offshore wind financing history.

The South Korean government is set to overhaul its offshore wind power development framework by introducing a planned site designation system, under which suitable locations will be identified in advance by the state. In parallel, a pan-governmental integrated body will handle permitting procedures in a streamlined manner, replacing the fragmented approval process previously led by private developers.

With limited large-scale development space in surrounding areas, Chung-Lun offers substantial potential. The Economic Development Bureau aims to position Chung-Lun as a hub for medical biotech and software design industries, seeking to expand its area and attract flagship enterprises to establish headquarters, forming an industrial chain and spurring development.

The new AWS Asia Pacific (Taipei) Region will give developers, startups, entrepreneurs, and enterprises, as well as education, entertainment, financial services, and nonprofit organizations, greater choice for running their applications and serving end users from data centers located in Taiwan, ensuring that customers who want to keep their content in Taiwan can do so. As part of its long-term commitment, AWS is planning to invest billions of dollars in Taiwan over the next 15 years.

Following the recent installation of the world's first 18 MW offshore wind turbine with a diameter of 260 meters by Dongfang Electric Corporation (DEC), Siemens Energy has announced the imminent completion of its 21 MW wind turbine, which will be the largest offshore wind turbine manufactured by Siemens Energy to date. The estimated output power is approximately 40% higher than that of the company's other turbine models, with the largest turbine boasting a rotor diameter of 236 meters.

Hon Hai Technology Group announced on June 4th the establishment of an advanced computing center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in collaboration with NVIDIA. The center will be centered around the super chip GB200 servers, comprising a total of 64 cabinets and 4,608 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Completion is anticipated by 2026. Concurrently, Foxtron Vehicle Technologies Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Hon Hai Technology, is advancing into the new Qiaotou plant in Kaohsiung, which is set to become one of the group's flagship AI factories.
