On April 25th, Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI) released a research report on offshore wind areas in Japan. The report estimated the total potential area of offshore wind regions, taking into account the density of vessel traffic. The findings revealed a potential equivalent of 70 GW for fixed-bottom offshore wind installations and 2,397 GW for floating offshore wind power.

Egypt signed 2 land-use agreements on May 1st of this year for the construction of 2 onshore wind farms in the western region of Sohag, Egypt. The total capacity of the 2 wind farms is 8 GW, and are expected to become the largest onshore wind farms in the Middle East. The signing ceremony was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly, Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker, and the Norwegian Ambassador to Egypt. Shaker announced that the project will be developed under the Build-Operate-Own (BOO) model. It is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 17 million tons annually.

6 Bidders Win Feasibility Licenses For Australia's First Offshore Wind Farm
6 developers have been granted feasibility licenses for offshore wind farm development in Australia. High Sea Wind, Gippsland Skies, Blue Mackerel North, Kut-Wut Brataualung, Ørsted Offshore Australia 1, and Star of the South Wind Farm have all been chosen to proceed after submitting applications last year.

The Group of Seven (G7) aims to increase global energy storage capacity by 6.5 times by 2030 to support the wider use of renewable energy. The draft calls for boosting the power industry's energy storage capacity to 1,500 GW by 2030 through battery storage and hydrogen, up from 230 GW in 2022. This initiative aims to tackle the instability of renewable energy generation and enhance energy security.
