H2 Green Steel (H2GS) has secured an additional €4.5bn of funding to build the world’s first large-scale green steel project, which will incorporate about 1GW of electrolysers, making it the biggest green hydrogen facility in Europe.

The Department of Energy Philippines (DOE) highlights a remarkable 26% uptick in service-contracted renewable energy commercial projects for 2023. Driven by advancements in solar technology, a total of 1,220 projects have been contracted, with a combined potential capacity reaching 134,813.79 MW. This represents a substantial increase from the 2022 figures, which accounted for 965 projects and a total capacity of 80,396.61 MW.

Ørsted Greater Changhua Offshore Wind Farm Achieves Carbon Reduction of 830,000 Metric Tons
Ørsted announced today (30) that the 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms has generated clean electricity equivalent to reducing 830,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions since the first turbine was connected to the grid in April 2022. This amount is comparable to the carbon reduction amount of more than 6,400 Daan Forest Parks, highlighting the substantial contribution of large-scale offshore wind farms to achieving net-zero carbon goals.

bp and Equinor announced on 25th this month an agreement to restructure the ownership of their joint US offshore wind projects which, following completion, will result in bp taking ownership of Equinor's 50% stake in the Beacon Wind 1 and 2 projects and Equinor taking ownership of bp's 50% stake in the Empire Wind 1 and 2 projects. In addition, bp agrees to take ownership of Equinor's 50% interest in the Astoria Gateway for Renewable Energy (AGRE) site and, subject to certain future conditions, Equinor agrees to take ownership of bp's 50% interest in the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT).

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic recently announced the establishment of SIRS (Státní investiční a rozvojové společnosti) to attract strategic investments like electric vehicle battery or semiconductor production to the Czech Republic. SIRS will focus on developing modern industrial parks with the necessary infrastructure to provide suitable land for investors immediately. The goal is to attract foreign investments, bring high-value additions, and enhance the competitiveness of the Czech Republic.

According to Financial Times, Britain's flagship Hinkley Point C nuclear plant has been delayed until 2029 at the earliest, with the cost spiraling to near £46bn. The surging bill and slipping schedule, announced on Tuesday by the French state-owned operator and constructor EDF (Electricite de France S.A., EDF), will put pressure on the UK government to provide extra financial support for the project.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) stated on the 24th that it anticipates low-carbon sources to represent nearly half of global electricity generation by around 2026, up from less than 40% in 2023. Additionally, it is estimated that by early 2025, renewable energy will surpass coal in the total power generation share, accounting for over one-third.
