|U.S. Authorities Permit Limited Construction Resumption at Vineyard Wind Offshore Project
Vineyard Wind and GE Vernova have announced that U.S. safety officials have granted permission to resume limited construction on the Massachusetts offshore wind farm, where a turbine blade shattered last month. The project, co-developed by Vineyard Wind and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, was halted following the incident on July 13, which resulted in fiberglass debris washing ashore.

The U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) has now authorized the installation of towers and nacelles—the turbine components that house generating equipment—allowing the project to move forward despite the ongoing investigation.

|Indonesia Relaxes Local Content Requirements for Solar Imports to Accelerating Renewable Energy Project Development
The Indonesian government has revised its import rules for solar power plants, reducing the minimum local content requirement from 40% to 20%. This adjustment, aimed at accelerating renewable energy projects, allows the use of imported panels if certain conditions are met, including ministerial approval and a power purchase agreement (PPA) by the end of the year. The import window will close in June 2025, and the panels must come from companies investing in Indonesian production facilities. Additionally, local content requirements for hydropower and wind power plants have also been eased.

These changes are part of Indonesia's broader effort to enhance its renewable energy infrastructure and reduce emissions. The relaxed regulations are seen as a temporary measure to facilitate ongoing and new projects, particularly in the new capital, The Nusantara Capital City (IKN). Despite Indonesia's significant solar potential, the country has lagged in its renewable energy goals, with last year's renewables comprising just over 13% of the energy mix, below the 17.87% target. The updated regulations are expected to help close this gap by enabling more projects to proceed.

|Australia Grants Major Project Status to AREH and 2 Green Hydrogen and Critical Minerals Initiatives
Australia has granted "Major Project Status" (MPS) to the Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH) and two additional projects in green hydrogen and critical minerals. This designation highlights their national importance, promising to boost economic growth and employment. These projects will receive additional support from the Major Projects Facilitation Agency (MPFA) to navigate regulatory processes more efficiently.

The AREH project, valued at $20 billion, will deploy 26 GW of solar and wind energy across 6,500 square kilometers in Western Australia. This energy will power 14 GW of electrolyzers, producing 1.6 million tonnes of green hydrogen and nine million tonnes of green ammonia annually for both domestic use and export.

Additionally, the government recognized the Murchison green hydrogen development and the NiWest Nickel Cobalt Project. The Murchison project, with a $10 billion investment, will generate 6 GW of renewable energy and 2 million tonnes of green ammonia annually. Meanwhile, the NiWest project, with an investment under $1 billion, will produce 90,000 tonnes of nickel sulphate and 6,800 tonnes of cobalt sulphate, essential for future technologies.
