Taiwan–Indonesia Ink Dual Agreements on Trade Promotion and Halal Development to Deepen Strategic Ties

Representatives of Taiwan and Indonesia sign two memoranda of understanding on trade promotion and halal cooperation.
To deepen bilateral trade engagement and expand cooperation in the halal sector, the Ministry of Economic Affairs facilitated the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding—one on Trade Promotion Cooperation and another on Halal Cooperation—between Representative Bruce Hung of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia and Arif Sulistiyo of the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office to Taipei on 20 November 2025.
The Taiwan–Indonesia Trade Promotion Cooperation MOU, first concluded in 2020 and expired in 2023, has been renewed after more than two years of negotiations. The renewed agreement significantly broadens the scope of collaboration to include edible bird's nest products, seafood, agricultural goods, processed foods, bicycles, shipbuilding, household items, textiles, medical equipment, beauty and wellness products, handicrafts, animation and gaming, and digital services. Future cooperation will encompass trade exhibitions, seminars, business forums and dialogues, conferences, MICE-related training, commercial networking, and capacity-building initiatives to support Taiwanese companies in expanding their presence in the Indonesian market.
The Taiwan–Indonesia Halal Cooperation MOU marks the first bilateral agreement dedicated to the halal sector. It aims to promote cooperation on mutual recognition of halal certification, Muslim-friendly practices, and broader information exchange. Joint activities will include halal business forums, trade events, and market-promotion initiatives—providing Taiwanese firms with essential insights into the halal ecosystem and facilitating access to international halal markets.
Both MOUs will enhance the ability of Taiwanese and Indonesian industries to export and distribute products more smoothly across each other's markets. To operationalize these commitments, Taiwan will continue to host sector-specific trade fairs to attract Indonesian and global buyers, organize business delegations to Indonesia for exhibitions and market development, and arrange targeted trade missions to capture emerging commercial opportunities.
As ASEAN's largest economy and a key partner in Taiwan's New Southbound Policy, Indonesia maintains close economic ties with Taiwan. The signing of these two MOUs creates new platforms for cooperation and exchange, reinforcing a mutually beneficial and forward-looking partnership.
