Vena Energy Taiwan Ventures into Offshore Wind Power, Set to Participate Phase 3 Offshore Wind Zonal Development 2nd Stage Selection
Vena Energy Taiwan is expanding its presence in the offshore wind energy sector by entering the second stage selection of Phase 3 Offshore Wind Zonal Development with the "Wei-Long" and "Wei-Na" wind farms. Since joining the Taiwanese market in 2015, Vena Energy has undertaken robust development, construction, and operation of seven solar facilities. Among them, the Yunlin Xingxing Industrial Zone, spanning 226 hectares and equivalent to eight Da'an Forest Parks, was inaugurated on April 22, 2023, on Earth Day by President Ing-Wen Tsai. This facility has consistently contributed to Taiwan's green energy landscape.
In recent years, Vena Energy has initiated offshore wind power projects in the Asia-Pacific region, specifically in Japan and South Korea. Furthermore, in June 2022, the company officially entered the Taiwanese offshore wind power sector.
Tsung-Wei Feng, General Manager of Vena Energy's Offshore Wind Power Development Division, stated, "We are delighted to see the successful submission of contracts for the Phase 3 Zonal Development First Stage to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. This marks the commercialization of Taiwan's offshore wind energy investment environment and instills confidence in new entrants to the offshore wind power sector like us. With years of presence in Taiwan's energy market, alongside our continuous expansion in solar photovoltaics, Vena Energy's offshore wind power team has actively progressed into the pre-bidding phase. We remain steadfast in our commitment to energy transition. Just as we have developed solar photovoltaics in Taiwan, we will diligently construct and develop offshore wind farms, contributing our efforts to Taiwan's renewable energy landscape."
Tsung-Wei Feng emphasized, "Risk management is a critical criterion for Vena Energy when evaluating development opportunities. Taiwan occupies a strategic position in offshore wind power development. Upholding rigorous risk management mechanisms, we anticipate addressing challenges collaboratively with the government under reasonable development conditions, thus advancing energy transition."
The Wei-Na wind farm, situated off the coast of Miaoli, covers an area of approximately 126 square kilometers, about 20 kilometers from shore. Water depths range from 52 to 78 meters, and it is designed with a capacity of 850 MW.
The Wei-Long wind farm, located off the coast of Changhua, spans around 76 square kilometers, positioned approximately 43 kilometers from shore. Depths in this area range from 40 to 62 meters, and the planned capacity is 600 MW. Both wind farms are projected to employ large-scale turbines with individual capacities ranging from 14 to 20 MW.
