SRE Teams Up with Siemens Gamesa for the Third Time to Accelerate Development of Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Project

Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE), a leading offshore wind developer in the Asia-Pacific region, today announced a strategic collaboration with Siemens Gamesa, a global leader in wind turbine systems, to advance the development of the Formosa 4 offshore wind project. Through localized production and technology deployment, the partnership underscores a shared commitment to accelerating Taiwan's renewable energy transition and strengthening its green power capabilities.
The Formosa 4 offshore wind project was awarded a capacity of 495 MW during the first auction round of Taiwan's Phase 3 Zonal Development in 2022. It marks SRE's third offshore wind project in Taiwan since entering the market in 2012, as well as the company's third collaboration with Siemens Gamesa. Under the project plan, Siemens Gamesa will supply thirty-five 14 MW turbines from its nacelle assembly facility in Taichung, ensuring on-time delivery and grid connection.
Lucas Lin, Chairperson at SRE, stated: "Over the past six years, SRE has successively participated in and delivered Taiwan's first offshore wind project, Formosa 1, as well as Formosa 2—the first project under Phase 2 to achieve commercial operation—gradually establishing our position as a leading offshore wind developer in the Asia-Pacific region. Formosa 4 represents the first project to be fully led and managed by our local team. Building on our strong partnership with Siemens Gamesa, we look forward to once again joining forces to drive sustainability in Taiwan and across the wider Asia-Pacific region."
SRE Project Director Sahand Holm remarked: "Through constructive dialogue and a thorough understanding of each other's needs, SRE and Siemens Gamesa have successfully reached this agreement. We deeply appreciate the dedication, expertise, and perseverance of both teams. This collaboration lays a solid foundation for the success of the Formosa 4 project."
Mogens Jakobsen, Global Head of Sales of Siemens Gamesa, stated: "In Taiwan, our offshore wind installations have now exceeded 3 GW, making Taiwan one of Siemens Gamesa's key strategic markets. The Formosa 4 project not only reaffirms our commitment, but also further strengthens our localized production capabilities at the Taichung nacelle plant. We are pleased to continue our partnership with SRE to deliver stable and reliable green energy for Taiwan, and we are grateful for SRE's continued trust and support since the successful delivery of Formosa 1 and Formosa 2."
The Formosa 4 is located off the coast of Miaoli and secured its establishment permit at the end of 2024, becoming the first project among its allocation round peers to achieve this critical milestone. Once completed, the project is expected to provide high-quality electricity to approximately 500,000 households.
