Fox Forest has established Taiwan's first demonstration site for Biodiversity Credits (BioCredits) in Shoufeng Township, Hualien.

The 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP30, will highlight "nature" as its core theme this year, emphasizing biodiversity and the positive value of nature. In response to the global challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss, the National Taiwan University(NTU) Experimental Forest has partnered with Fox Forest, a subsidiary of Shinfox Energy, to establish Taiwan's first demonstration site for Biodiversity Credits (BioCredits) in Shoufeng Township, Hualien. The initiative calls on Taiwanese businesses to take early action and join this "biodiversity ultramarathon" to foster positive growth for ecosystems and environmental sustainability./p>

Following the global focus on ESG and carbon credits, topics such as biodiversity and nature-based solutions are now gaining strong momentum. "Biodiversity Credits" have emerged as the next key issue for corporate attention. Dr. Ming-Jer Tsai, Director of the NTU Experimental Forest, explained that these credits not only enhance carbon sinks but, more importantly, aim to create greater value for biodiversity and promote nature-positive growth. Biodiversity credits are grounded in results-based outcomes and localized measurements, requiring scientific evidence and quantifiable, positive biodiversity impacts.

Dr. Ming-Jer Tsai, Director of the NTU Experimental Forest, will be speaking for the third time at this year's World Climate Summit (WCS), where he will present the 97.77-hectare biodiversity demonstration site at Fox Forest in Shoufeng Township, Hualien.

Dr. Tsai, who has been invited to speak at the World Climate Summit (WCS) for three consecutive years, one of the most significant side events at COP30, will showcase the 97.77-hectare biodiversity demonstration site in Shoufeng operated by Fox Forest. This site highlights Taiwan's practical solutions for reforestation and biodiversity credit generation in low-elevation mountainous regions. By aligning with international biodiversity dialogues and frameworks, Dr. Tsai emphasized: "With 40% of sustainability transitions happening in Asia, Taiwan plays a vital role and must not be absent from the global BioCredits movement."

In the context of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and international nature-positive initiatives, the three key areas of natural evolution, ecosystems, and species form the foundation of biodiversity. To demonstrate progress in nature-positive growth, more than five biodiversity indicators must be measured, including: natural resource coverage, hydrological systems, carbon storage, migratory species, habitats, species richness, ecological integrity, species distribution, extinction risk, and genetic diversity.

Hu Hui-Yun, General Manager of Fox Forest, remarked, "Today, brand clients no longer ask only about carbon emissions, they're directly requesting biodiversity disclosures." COP30 will be held from November 10 to 21 in Belém, a rainforest city in Brazil. Under the theme of "nature," solutions based on nature, such as tree planting, forest protection, sustainable management, and ecological restoration, have become new goals in sustainable development.

The demonstration forest in Shoufeng, Hualien, represents a forward-looking model for biodiversity credits in Taiwan. It calls for all sectors to participate in integrating multi-faceted solutions that address both climate change and biodiversity, to actively respond to nature-related risks and opportunities, and to join the path toward COP30 and a sustainable future.
