China Steel Power Corporation held a grand ceremony today to announce the completion of its Zhong Neng Offshore Wind Farm Project, with all 31 turbines successfully installed. The project is now entering the adjustment and testing phase, aiming for grid connection by the end of 2024. This marks a major milestone in the development of Taiwan's offshore wind energy sector.

Shyi-Chin Wang, Chairman of China Steel Power Corporation, highlighted the significance of this project, the first offshore wind farm developed by China Steel Corporation (CSC). Since being awarded a capacity of 300 MW in 2018, the Zhong Neng wind farm has successfully completed construction despite numerous challenges, thanks to the collaboration between CIP (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners), government agencies, and financing banks. Once fully operational and connected to the grid, the Zhong Neng wind farm is expected to generate over 1.1 billion kWh annually, with a carbon reduction potential of approximately 550,000 tons, contributing to Taiwan's 2050 net-zero target.

Joris Hol, CEO of the Zhong Neng Offshore Wind Farm Project, stated that the Zhong Neng wind farm involved local companies in its development and achieved the highest localization rate of any wind farm in Taiwan. He expressed gratitude to the Zhong Neng team and all suppliers for their close cooperation in overcoming the challenging offshore conditions to advance the project. Following the completion of construction and the start of commercial operations, the wind farm will enter an operational phase lasting more than 20 years, creating long-term demand for local operations and maintenance services.

Marine Hsu, Regional President of CIP, noted that the Zhong Neng wind farm is CIP's second completed wind farm in Taiwan this year, following the Changfang & Xidao Offshore Wind Farms. The Zhong Neng wind farm boasts the highest localization rate in Taiwan and is the first wind farm in the country to be completed ahead of schedule. This success will provide clean energy to 300,000 households and accelerate Taiwan's energy transition.
