Formosa 2 Wind Farm Marks Second Year of Commercial Operations Surpassing 2.5 Billion kWh in Power Generation and Achieving 546 Consecutive LTI-Free Days

Formosa 2 Wind Power marks its second year of commercial operations with cumulative generation surpassing 2.5 billion kWh, while continuing to advance industry standards through strengthened O&M safety, academic collaboration and community engagement.
Formosa 2 Wind Power Co. announced today (25th) that the wind farm has reached its second anniversary of commercial operations. Since entering full operation in September 2023, Formosa 2—Taiwan's first Phase 2 offshore wind project to commence commercial service—has delivered steady clean-energy output while raising industry standards in operational safety, academic collaboration and community engagement, underscoring its commitment to Taiwan's energy transition.
Strong Power Output and Robust Safety Performance
Over its first two years of commercial operations, Formosa 2 has generated more than 2.5 billion kWh of electricity—equivalent to the two-year power consumption of approximately 301,000 households—and helped avoid an estimated 1.155 million tonnes of carbon emissions. The wind farm recorded an average capacity factor of 37.88%, reaching as high as 63.3% during peak wind seasons, outpacing industry benchmarks and demonstrating stable and efficient performance.
The company continues to prioritize safety and operational resilience. By adhering to stringent international maintenance standards, Formosa 2 achieved a peak record of 546 consecutive days without lost-time injuries and 305 days without any injuries, reflecting its unwavering commitment to workplace safety.
Advancing Ecological Stewardship Through Academic Collaboration
With a 20-year operating horizon in Taiwan, Formosa 2 emphasizes coexistence with local ecosystems and industries. The company has expanded its academic partnerships, working with National Cheng Kung University's Hydrotech Research Institute on the Xihu Wetland Conservation Program to protect important species such as the little tern and Kentish plover. Formosa 2 also collaborates with National Taiwan Ocean University on long-term fisheries resource surveys, using scientific data collected since 2017 to monitor ecological changes around the wind farm and support transparent communication with local stakeholders.

Supporting Local Communities and Fisheries Through Long-Term Engagement
Formosa 2 continues to deepen its support for local fisheries and community development by turning sustainability commitments into concrete action. To enhance maritime safety, the company has donated more than 450 international-standard life jackets to the Miaoli Fishermen's Association and local fishers. Based on fisheries survey findings, it has also released 160,000 juvenile fish from 17 economically important species with strong restocking potential, contributing to the recovery of local fishery resources.
On the education front, Formosa 2 has partnered with five elementary schools in Miaoli—Chenggong, Haikou, Zhaonan, Xizhou and Dingpu—to promote offshore wind literacy, marine education and sustainable seafood culture. More than 12 themed classes and family activities have been held to date, reaching over 500 teachers and students. Through ongoing engagement, Formosa 2 aims to remain a trusted long-term partner to local communities.
Looking Ahead: Two Years of Progress, Twenty Years of Shared Prosperity
"Reaching the second anniversary of commercial operation marks a milestone in the maturity of our localized O&M capabilities," said Formosa 2 CEO Jane Chen. "The early years came with significant challenges, but our team has shown that this is a path to long-term success. These experiences form the foundation for our next 20 years of sustainable operations. We embed renewable energy development, community prosperity, fisheries coexistence and ecological protection into every decision to ensure wind power becomes a lasting force for future generations."
As Formosa 2 enters its next phase, the company is committed to advancing operational efficiency, driving technological innovation and strengthening collaboration with government, academia, industry and local communities to jointly advance Taiwan's clean-energy future and long-term sustainability vision.
