Global Wind Giants Include Equinor Exit South Korea as Costs Soar and Permits Stall
Global offshore wind developers are increasingly scaling back or exiting South Korea as rising costs, financing challenges, and complex regulatory requirements undermine project viability. Norway's Equinor recently decided to halt its 750 MW Firefly (Bandibuli) floating offshore wind farm off Ulsan (울산 반딧불 부유식 해상풍력 발전소, 반딧불부유식해상풍력) , a project valued at approximately KRW 6 trillion and regarded as the world's largest single floating offshore wind farm.

Executive Yuan: Taiwan Classified Among Lower-Risk Economies in U.S. Section 301 Forced Labor Import Investigation
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) announced on June 3 that, according to the findings of the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) under its Section 301 investigation concerning import prohibitions on goods produced with forced labor, Taiwan has been designated as one of 14 economies assessed as presenting a relatively lower level of risk. As a result, the USTR has proposed an additional 10% tariff on Taiwan, compared with the proposed 12.5% tariff on other economies.

Taipower's Electricity Carbon Emission Factor Drops to 0.467 kg CO₂e/kWh; MOEA Reports Progress in Energy Transition
The Energy Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) announced on June 2 that the 2025 electricity carbon emission factor for public electricity retailers has decreased to 0.467 kg CO₂e/kWh, representing a 1.5% reduction from 2024 and an overall decline of approximately 12% compared with 2016.

On, 2nd June, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) Department of Industrial Technology opened the AI X Innovation Pavilion at InnoVEX, showcasing 31 cutting-edge technologies spanning smart machinery, communications, green energy, semiconductors, biotechnology, and medical devices. The exhibition features achievements from the TREE Program (Taiwan Research-Institute Advanced Technology Entrepreneur Ecosystem Program, TREE) and winners of the "2026 Best AI Awards", highlighting Taiwan's growing strength in AI innovation and cross-sector applications.

Taiwan's offshore wind power industry has grown to a total value exceeding 1.5 trillion NT dollars, spurring the rapid development of related supply chain industries and a demand for tens of thousands of professionals in the offshore wind energy sector. The National Taiwan University (NTU), hosted a launch press conference today (9/5) at Yunlin Branch, National Taiwan University's Agriculture Incubation and Extension Center. Vena Energy Taiwan is expanding its presence in the offshore wind energy sector by entering the second stage selection of Phase 3 Offshore Wind Zonal Development with the "Wei-Long" and "Wei-Na" wind farms. Since joining the Taiwanese market in 2015, Vena Energy has undertaken robust development, construction, and operation of seven solar facilities. Among them, the Yunlin Offshore Industrial Zone, spanning 226 hectares and equivalent to eight Da'an Forest Parks, was inaugurated on April 22, 2023, on Earth Day by President Ing-Wen Tsai. This facility has consistently contributed to Taiwan's green energy landscape.

5 companies have applied to Taiwan's MOEA for the signing of administration contracts for the 3.1 auction
Total of 5 companies have applied to Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) for the signing of administration contracts for the 3.1 auction. The Ministry's Bureau of Energy (BOE) has indicated that the applications have been received and the industrial relevant plan will be reviewed in order to promptly complete the signing process. The 3.1 phase of zonal development is scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2027.

It marks a milestone on its ongoing efforts in the Asia-Pacific region and its dedication to support Taiwan's commitment to energy transition.
