The British Office Taipei and Taiwan's Energy Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs jointly hosted the "UK–Taiwan 20th Anniversary Renewable Energy Gala Dinner" on April 1, 2026, at the Grand Hyatt Taipei. The event brought together senior government officials and industry representatives from both sides. UK Trade Envoy to Taiwan, Lord Faulkner of Worcester, and Director-General Chuang Ming-chi attended the event, marking two decades of close collaboration and celebrating the remarkable evolution of offshore wind energy from early-stage planning to a mature industry.

Taiwan Launches Round 3 Offshore Wind Zonal Development Auction Mechanism with 3.6GW Capacity Target
On the 27th, the MOEA announced the "Directions for Allocating Installed Capacity of Offshore Wind Potential Zones" guidelines for offshore wind zonal development Round 3, following 2 briefing sessions and 3 stakeholder consultation meetings. The application process will commence on April 1, 2026, with a six-month preparation period provided to developers. Submissions will close on September 30, and the selection results are scheduled to be announced before the end of the year.

This transaction marks the first completed offshore wind refinancing in both Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region. The deal received an enthusiastic response from the financial market, achieving more than two times oversubscription and setting a new benchmark in Taiwan's offshore wind financing history.

wpd announced today that it has completed the construction of its 200th onshore wind turbine in Taiwan. The milestone turbine is located in the Chuangwei Wind Farm in Mailiao, Yunlin. The wind farm already has 13 wind turbine units, including nine 3.6MW units and four 4.2MW units, with the 200th turbine being the largest capacity 4.2MW unit currently available in Taiwan.

Formosa2 offshore wind farm held an inauguration ceremony
Formosa2 offshore wind farm today (16th May) held an inauguration ceremony at the Waipu Fishing Port in Miaoli to celebrate the successful construction. Located between 4 to 10 kilometers off the coast of Zhunan Township, Miaoli County, the Formosa 2 wind farm has an installed capacity of 376MW and will generate electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 380,000 households, reducing carbon emissions by 700,000 tons per year.
